Ma Wan Chung Stilt Houses

棚屋是村落最具特色的部分之一。這些一至兩層的高腳屋沿著馬灣涌的水邊而建，多數仍有人居住，有些則成為當地貓和鳥的棲身地。疫情期間，不少歸鄉的居民為高腳屋增建。如今，村民正準備與藝術家合作，在屋上繪畫屬於馬灣涌的故事，一起傳承歷史文化。

These stilt houses are an iconic part of the village’s character. The stilt houses are tucked along the water’s edge. These one-to-two-storey houses are still inhabited today—though some now provide shelter for local cats and birds instead of people. During the pandemic, returning villagers added extensions to the stilt houses. With plans underway to paint stories about Ma Wan Chung on the stilt houses, villagers are eager to preserve their history.
